Brittany's northern coast extends from the wide expanse of Mont St Michel Bay in the east, through the sandy beaches of the Cote Emeraude including Cancale, the oyster capital of Brittany. From one of our holiday homes in Brittany historic St Malo, Dinard and the Rance estuary can be discovered. A detour inland finds delightful, medieval Dinan with its narrow streets and half-timbered houses. Further west is the Cote Granit Rose – the Pink Granite Coast, so-called because of the colour of the underlying rock. Between Perros Guirec and Tregastel Plage you will find sandy coves and rock pools with stunning views. The pretty Crozon Peninsula with its craggy cliffs, sandy beaches and dramatic coastal rock formations stretches its fingers into the Atlantic. Here Atlantic rollers crash against the coast and its islands, with the naval port of Brest sheltering on the opposite banks of the Elorn estuary .This headland lies inside the Parc Regional d'Armorique, a wind-swept wilderness which reaches inland to Huelgoat, where pleasant wooded walks can be enjoyed. Across the Baie de Douarnanez, to the south, lies another rocky outcrop terminating in the impressive Pointe du Raz. No self catering Brittany holiday would be complete without a trip to visit the ancient capital, Quimper, and the preserved village of Locronan.

South of here, the coastline softens, punctuated by wooded river inlets around attractive Benodet, the fishing port of Concarneau and artists' haven, Pont-Aven. With a climate influenced by the gulf-stream and a variety of beautiful beaches, no wonder this is a popular destination for visitors from the UK who come to enjoy a self catering Brittany holiday. Below busy Lorient, miles of unspoilt sands sweep down to the Quiberon Peninsula and intriguing Golfe de Morbihan, an area littered with prehistoric monuments. Self catering in Brittany is the perfect choice for families, walkers, surfers and indeed anyone who loves the outdoors. A stroll through the cobbled streets of Vannes reveals a rich medieval history and 15th century half-timbered houses and 18th century mansions. From here you can take a boat trip to the islands Ile aux Moines or Ile d'Arz. Also worth a visit whilst you are on your self catering Brittany holiday are the famous prehistoric standing stones of Carnac.
